The Moon, Math and MORE!

We are having SO MUCH FUN learning in third grade!!

Today we learned how to work in our new Daily 5 Centers. We practiced "Read to Self" and were able to read for five minutes nonstop!! The students were VERY focused and made sure they were not only reading, but understanding what they are reading. We are working on building our stamina so that we are able to read ,to ourselves, for twenty minutes! I know that our class can do it, no problem!! We will learn how to work in the other centers the remainder of this week. Then our centers will be in full swing!

*If you would like to send in a towel/blanket for your child to sit/lay on during "Read to Self" that would be great however, it is not required. We are just trying to make sure we are all comfortable while reading so we can really get "lost" in our books.

This week we will be finishing up Unit 2 in Math. We will have the unit test this Thursday. Tomorrow, we will continue to review Lesson 2.9. Then, Wednesday we will play a whole class jeopardy review game. I have noticed that we are having a rough time as a class with basic addition/subtraction facts. We need to know these facts quickly so that we are able to move on to larger addition/subtraction problems along with multiplication and division. The students are loving Math Magician and they can practice at home here: Math Magician. I also introduced SumDog.com to the class today. They can also play this at home here: SumDog. I will be sending home user information tomorrow in the Tuesday folder in case anyone forgot their log ons.

We also began our unit about Space/Objects in the Sky. We listened to a really cool rap song about the phases of the moon. Check it out! (Warning: They'll be singing the hook all night!!) We are also tracking the phases of the moon every night. Don't forget to check it tonight!!
